Yeah, for some reason Hollywood has run out of ideas for original movies, they are almost half way through ruining Comic Books so they want to continue their rampage through good movies with making pointless and bad remakes.
Amityville Horror is one. Originally thought to be a true story, long since debunked, this movie looks to be a Psycho-style remake where it looks to be scene to scene from the original. It could be entertaining but they are still, in the teaser I saw, saying it's based on a true story.
The Blob. Yeah, the original 1950's version was and still is awsome. In 1988 there was a subpar, but still fun, remake that was simply a seperate story with little to do with the original, the Blob was explained away as a governenment boi-warfar weapon gone awry. Now, they want yet another remake. I can see it now: dump the real effects and make the Blob some cheap looking CG jello mold. It'll be crap and I'll bet you the movie-maker will attempt to fully explain it.
But among these two and countless others, the one remake I am fully against is The Evil Dead. Yes, the Sam Raimi/Bruce Campbell classic is being infected with the remake bug. From my understanding, Raimi has decided to give up part of his creative control over the series to New Line Cinema (home of Freddy, Jason and Leatherface) and they are planning a remake of the original which is somehow supposed to be a continuation of the series(!). Now, on top of that is the announcement that they are looking for someone to play the role of evil-slayer, Ash. I'm sorry but there is already someone in that role: BRUCE! Now, to further complicate things, Raimi has announced his intentions to make Evil Dead 4 in 2008 and continue the story from Bruce Campbell Vs. Army of Darkness. So, the third Evil Dead movie will have 2 sequels? Sheesh.
I am looking forward to some other horror movies coming out thought. Darkness and Dark Water look nice. And, all things withstanding, the new War of the Words looks to have some potential, but I'm still trying to figure out what angle the story is coming from...
