Ward Churchill: A True Butthole

CU prof's essay sparks dispute
Ward Churchill says 9/11 victims were not innocent people
By John C. Ensslin, Rocky Mountain NewsJanuary 27, 2005
A University of Colorado professor has sparked controversy in New York over an essay he wrote that maintains that people killed in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks were not innocent victims.
Students and faculty members at Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y., have been protesting a speaking appearance on Feb. 3 by Ward L. Churchill, chairman of the CU Ethnic Studies Department.
They are upset over an essay Churchill wrote titled, "Some People Push Back: On the Justice of Roosting Chickens."
The essay takes its title from a remark that black activist Malcolm X made in the wake of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
Malcolm X created controversy when he said Kennedy's murder was a case of "chickens coming home to roost."
Churchill's essay argues that the Sept. 11 attacks were in retaliation for the Iraqi children killed in a 1991 U.S. bombing raid and by economic sanctions imposed on Iraq by the United Nations following the Persian Gulf War.
The essay contends the hijackers who crashed airplanes into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on Sept. 11 were "combat teams," not terrorists.

It states: "The most that can honestly be said of those involved on Sept. 11 is that they finally responded in kind to some of what this country has dispensed to their people as a matter of course."
The essay maintains that the people killed inside the Pentagon were "military targets."
"As for those in the World Trade Center," the essay said, "well, really, let's get a grip here, shall we? True enough, they were civilians of a sort. But innocent? Gimme a break."
The essay goes on to describe the victims as "little Eichmanns," referring to Adolph Eichmann, who executed Adolph Hitler's plan to exterminate Jews during World War II.
Churchill said he was not especially surprised at the controversy at Hamilton, but he also defended the opinions contained in his essay.
"When you kill 500,000 children in order to impose your will on other countries, then you shouldn't be surprised when somebody responds in kind," Churchill said.
"If it's not comfortable, that's the point. It's not comfortable for the people on the other side, either."
The attacks on Sept. 11, he said, were "a natural and inevitable consequence of what happens as a result of business as usual in the United States. Wake up."
A longtime activist with the American Indian Movement, Churchill was one of eight defendants acquitted last week in Denver County Court on charges of disrupting Denver's Columbus Day parade.
His pending speech at Hamilton has drawn criticism from professors and students, including Matt Coppo, a sophomore whose father died in the World Trade Center attacks.
"His views are completely hurtful to the families of 3,000 people," Coppo said.
A spokesman for Hamilton College released a statement noting that Hamilton is committed to "the free exchange of ideas. We expect that many of those who strongly disagree with Mr. Churchill's comments will attend his talk and make their views known."
Controversial statements
In his essay Some People Push Back: On the Justice of Roosting Chickens, CU professor Ward Churchill argues that:
• The Sept. 11 attacks were in retaliation for the Iraqi children who were killed in a 1991 bombing raid and for economic sanctions imposed on Iraq by the United Nations following the Persian Gulf War.
• Hijackers who crashed jets into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on Sept. 11 were "combat teams," not terrorists.
• The people killed inside the Pentagon were "military targets."
***********************************************************************************
Now, where to begin...I know in America we have freedom of speech and expression, but that freedom should be protected from morons like this who would abuse it. Let me explain something to this jackass here...the 2001 TERRORIST Attacks on America were not in retaliation for ANYTHING other than the fact thos epeople hate what America stands for. That's it. Plain and simple.
They hate our freedoms, they hate that we allow women and minorities the same rights and freedoms as every other American in this nation.

You know, this is what we need to start doing: All these asses who hate what America is doing and what we stand for need to be KICKED THE FUCK OUT of this country. Let them live in a nation that truely doesnt allow for it's people to have any freedoms or rights.

And this idiot wants to say this is because of sanctions on Iraq? And the bombings that supposedly killed 500,00 children? Let's look at some facts, you ass. First those sanctions were imposed but not enforced by the UN because of Saddam. HE allowed his people to suffer...the ones he didnt use to fill mass graves that is. And the dead children, something that needs to be said to remind people of is that terrorists and others like Saddam build their bases and whatnot next to churches, hospitals and schools. The thinking is we wont dare hurt those people so cowards like Saddam use them as human shields.
I know this guy is a long time activist, which basically means he hates America and doesnt want to get a real job, but there is an old saying that have been long ignored in this country, a saying that is about America:

LOVE IT, OR LEAVE IT

Definition of Terrorist

terrorist

a radical who employs terror as a political weapon; usually organizes with other terrorists in small cells; often uses religion as a cover for terrorist activities

This is what a terrorist is. And to add to this you need to consider those who PRETEND to be dead until an American soldier(s) get close enough to them then they reveal their bomb, grenade or what have you, and try to kill as many American soldiers as they can.

Now some seem to think that it's wrong to hold people in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. What you need to realize is our government isnt going around just picking people up anywhere and putting them there. The people being held are suspected of being terrorists or having terrorist ties. Once proven otherwise they are released.
Something else that needs to be corrected is this notion that they are innocent until proven guilty. That is not true. That rule or law only applies to AMERICANS in AMERICA. These suspects arent being held in America, they are in Cuba so are not protected by our Constitution. Beyond that, there is no established law or body, other than the United Nations, that protects terrorists and terrorism. They are not seen as being human by any law and that is how it should be.

Hmmmm....

What to write, what to write....

There is a crap load of snow back in Michigan right now. We have 60 degree weather here.

Mike is still in school. I know it's hard for him but I am real proud that he's doing it and sticking to it. And believe me it's HARD WORK that he's doing! I try to help him with it and it even taxes MY mind, I can imagine how badly it taxes his considering he's having to retain as much of this information as possible!
His birthday is coming up. 29 years old, he will be and I'm trying to think of something special to do for him. I know I dropped the ball horribly bad with Christmas but I want his first birthday with just him and me to be something special. The crappy thing is I'm REAL out of practice with this sort of thing, lol.
I cannot wait until we can loosen the reigns on our wallets, so to speak. It's getting close to that point where we can, but I'm thinking we wont be fully at ease with it until we have a awsome amount of money saved up.

As soon as our W-2's come it we can really start to get ahead.

One Week

Last week, I found out, Clair passed away.

I know I havent written in here since then but I am really sorry for Matt's loss.
I doubt Earl conveyed my sympathies properly, his ego probably wouldn't have allowed it, but I know Aamber did.

I know none of them probably read this but I am truely and deeply sorry for Matt's loss, I know I keep repeating it but it's the only thing I can think to say right now about it.

I'll post something else tomorrow...the last thing I'll say is Earl is truely a disgusting person for the way he acted when I 'chatted' with him. More concerned with getting some damned apology for something long since forgotten, beyond that, I could have demanded an apology from him for the things he's said about me but I decided to, once again, be the bigger man and just tell him what he wanted to hear in hopes that he can move on with his life. It's so very sad to think he's never been able to move on for so long, that he's said nasty things about me in his Dead Journal...by the way, he makes it sound like I backed away from him, that he told me to "fuck" myself and I left and never came back. Truth is he never said any such thing to me and his treatment and vile words have had no impact on my life as it is now whatsoever.
There, that is the LAST I will ever speak of him or think of him from now on. Unless something is said or done that warrents my attention.

Fact is, Matt is far more important than Earl's pettiness anyway.

Ok, I did it...

Against my better judgement I contacted someone from "those days" in hopes of being able to offer my sympathies to Matt for the situation he finds himself in with Clair, who, I guess, is only expected to last a few days as most.
I contacted Earl, who prefers the spelling "Errl," and tried to offer said sympathies. It was cordial for the most part, as cordial as a conversation over Instant Messenger can be anyway. The thing that bothered me though was that while I'm trying to be a 'good guy' and express my sorrow for a former friends loss, I'm faced with talk about how everyone is still mad at me and what not...beyond that, Errl seemed more concerned with me apologizing to him about my 'behaviour' in the past. I tried to convey that I am a different person now that I no longer have that anger, not since I left Jackson...his reply was something to the effect that it was good I changed because I needed the improvement.
This is why I haven't talked to any of these people.
But anyway, I allowed him to say his piece, I apologized for who knows what anymore and tried to leave it at that. But part of me now wonders if engaging in a conversation with him may re-open wounds that have long since healed.

What strikes me as most interesting was his remark about how Clair was still running me into the ground verbally very recently. Well, I really don't care. Fact is she isn't going to be able to live the rest of her life. That's kind of more important than whether or not she still held some kind of hatred for me. I let all that go a long time ago. I haven't talked to or about any of them for a long time. I know I've been mentioned rather rudely in Errl's Dead Journal recently but it doesn't bother me.

I just wish Matt the best and hope he does ok. I know he and all the other's hate me, that's fine, but it takes a bigger man to do what I just did and not even attempt to get to the source of the hate. I honestly don't know what happened between all of us...I have my suspicions naturally, but it's not anything worth wasting time on anymore.

Sometimes you just have to look at your life and decide what is truely important to you.

Matt was one of my best friends at one time and he's in a world of hurt right now. I overlook the recent things and remember the good times we had hanging out and I really don't like even thinking about him going through what he's going through right now.

It's something I would never wish on anyone.

Still on cruise

This past Wednesday marked the 6th month of my living in Portland!
I'm still really loving living here. Granted, it hasnt been the easiest thing do accomplish, been a lot of hard work and lots of sacrifices made, but that's what needs to be done when you are trying to re-build yourself a new life in a new area. I'm looking forward to visiting Jackson sooner or later, but not looking forward to being in such a small quiet town, lol...
My friends and family and Nostalgia, Ink I miss dearly and look forward to seeing them all again soon.

I haven't heard anything new about Clair, which is ok. It means I haven't heard any bad news. The old saying 'no news is good news' applies here I suppose.

Mike and I saw an advanced showing of Elektra last night. It had a preview of the movie parody of the Fantastic Four comic. It looks like crap. I mean, last time I check, Dr. Doom did NOT go into space with the four. They messed that one up BIG TIME.
And the movie, Elektra, should have been a made for TV movie on TNT or something. The story was lacking, little charaterization and I hated how they refered to things that never came to light! Now granted, I never relly knew much about her, but I don't think she's the type that would easily team up with a 13 year old girl.
Just didnt make sense and people were actually leaving 10 mintues before the film actually ended.

How do I do this?

This is a difficult post for me. In one of the rare cases where I am a little at a loss for words. I'm not at all sure if it's even the right thing to do but I will do it anyway...
Yesterday I was told that Matt's girlfriend Clair was in the hospital with some sort of brain damage. I'm not going to pretend to know all the details because I don't. But I do know what it's like to lose someone you love.
Now, granted, Matt, Clair, even Arnie and Errl and I havent been on the same page for some time now, hell, we havent even been in the same BOOK, but this is one of those instances where petty differences like that are no longer important. This is a very serious matter and with all joking aside I offer my deepest of condolences to Matt. I know how much Clair means to him and I know how he must feel about this and I know it's not easy.
Though I doubt he or any of the others will ever read this, I still want to say I am sorry for what has happened to Clair and Matt and I hope Matt does ok regardless of how this turns out.

My thoughts are with them.

Political Wackos

This is a group of people in this nation that seems to be gathering new members daily. This group of people caters to the dumbest in our nation.

See, these are people, mostly Democrats and all liberal, who think we should give Terrorists the same rights and protections as normal humans. Right now, they are using the Adu Ghraib in an effort to prevent Alberto Gonzales from being attorney general. Now, beyond the fact Gonzales had nothing to do with that, the Dems are complaining that he supports 'torturing' terrorists to get information from them that may prevent the deaths of normal humans. TED KENNEDY, of all people, has a problem with some tactic that makes the terrorist thinks he is going to drown...I find it funny how Teddy has a problem with terrorists drowning, maybe he just doesnt think they are doing it right, he is, after all almost an expert in drowning someone...

This is something that needs to be said: TERRORISTS HAVE NO RIGHTS OR PROTECTIONS ON ANY LAW IN THE WORLD. They aren't even protected by the Geneva Convention. They were specifically left out. Hell, the terrorists in prison now are lucky we're feeding them! We don't have to but we do because, well, we probably have extra food. I say tie them to a tree outside and leave them to die.

Now, I'm also tired of hearing Michael Moore and that idiot Al Franken talk like they know what they are talking about. Neither one of them has ever made any sense other than they just hate people they disagree with.
I've seen Moore's movies so I know he's an idiot and I've read Franken's book, Rush Limbaugh Is A Big Fat Idiot.
Franken's book is funny, funny because on one hand he complains all Rush can do is make things up and insult his political opponnents, but all Franken does is call Rush fat. Which, in itself, is funny when you consider how him and others on the looney left hate it when someone points out Moore's fatness!
Thing is, Mr. Franken, Rush actually states things that are based in what we call reality. He doesnt just do out and spew hate and lies just to get his way. Rush, unlike Moore and Franken, doesnt resort to personal attacks to prove a point.
I've listened to Rush for over ten years, I have both of his books and have read them many times so I know what I'm talking about. He's offered more insight and information into the world of politics than Moore or Franken could EVER hope to do.
See, Rush, just like Sean Hannity, do something called offering their opinion and supporting it with fact. Wereas Moore and Franken offer their opinion AS fact then launch personal attacks against anyone who dares to disagree.
There's a difference.
There is also a difference between not resporting to namecalling and resorting to returning fire. Over the last year and a half, I've listened to Franken and Moore mock and insult people like me then run and hide when we wanted a face to face debate. Moore is a coward who wont talk to anyone unless he thinks he can win. Franken is just an idiot who hasnt got a clue. But since Moore and Franken and their ilk like to call names and run and hide, then it's all fair game. Moore is a fat retard and Franken is just a retard.

Now, if you are someone who believes what Moore put in his mockumentary last year of one who believes Franken knows the difference between his ass and a hole in the ground, I feel sorry for you. You really have no idea of what's going on, but there is always hope. Conservatives like me, note: Not Republican, I'm an Independent, always look for the balance. We find that by gathering opinion from certain sources and fact from certain sources. Moore and Franken fans only listen to their stories and see nothing else which is very dangerous.

Remember it was Michael Moore who, after the 9/11 attacks, said there "is no terrorist threat"

Mr. Moore, there are 3,000 dead Americans who may disagree with you, you moron.
Wow, it's hard to believe it's been nearly 6 months since I moved out here!

It's still great to be out of Jackson, I miss friends and family of course, but being out of that thown has really been a good thing for me. I look forward to visiting Jackson as soon as it is possible but I'll be just as eager to come back to Portland since this is my home now.

Well, Mike is back in school now and we are both hoping he has an easier go of things this time around. I worry that he may get discouraged with this since it is quite difficult, but I know he will make it. I can understand how getting back into the school habit is hard, especially now that he has a job and we have other so-called 'real world' responsibilities to take care of.
Of course this fall, I'm still considering a few classes at PCC to better myself even more. We'll just have to wait and see what happens later this year.

I've already been offered a management position at Suncoast. Not 100% positive I want it but the expected pay increase would be helpful...I already got one by default when the Oregon minimum wage was increased to $7.25 on January 1, that was a 15 cent raise for me.

2004 Comic Book Review

At the end of every year I count my collection to make sure my numbers are correct. This year it was impossible to count them seeing as they are not in my posession for the time being. So, instead of giving a re-count of my collection I'll just give what I'm cueecntly collecting and the number as current as I have it:

Current ONGOING titles:
Fables
Fantastic Four
Nightmares & Fairytales
Superman/Batman
Tarot, Witch of the Black Rose
The Witching

Sadly, I lost Captain Marvel and She-Hulk last year, two really great books that Marvel simply dropped the ball on. The kind of good news is I guess She-Hulk is coming back, yes they cancelled it so they could relaunch it, but it comes back in February (supposedly) in a 'series of miniseries' format. It sucks but I guess since it's Marvel, I should just be happy I'm getting something from them.
Transformers: Generation One is no longer on my list with news that it's publisher, Dreamwave, has closed it's doors. It's sad to see a great publisher go under like that. Especially since the Transformers line was so awsome! I'm hoping someone picks them up and allows the creators to continue the great work they started at Dreamwave!

Lastly, my collection currently hold 3445 comics. I miss each and every one of them, lol.

Lots of sad news in the comics world today, I'm hoping to have some good news from it soon!!

New Year - Bad News

Wow, first post of the new year and I'm posting MORE bad news for the comics industry!

First, comics legend, Will Eisner, creator of the long running character The Spirit who first appeared in 1939, passed away on Monday due to complications quadruple bypass surgery performed on December 22. He was 87.

His passing is just one of about 3 in recent days of legends leaving the comics world forever. But, as always, looking on the bright side: He lived a long and wonderful life, he gave the world many great pieces of art as well as the character The Spirit, and he was beloved by many.

In other BAD NEWS:
Transformers: Generation One publisher Dreamwave Comics has apparently today announced they are CLOSING UP SHOP. Meaning, like Chaos! Comics a few years ago, like CrossGen Comics last year, Dreamwave is gone. No more Transformers: Generation One comics which really SUCKS because it was a great series with awsome art and awsome characters!

I never read much from CrossGen but I loved the Transformers books Dreamwave was doing, I followed Generation One like I followed Chaos! Comics so this news hits in a soft place.

This news also makes me realize I need to find friends out here that are into comic books so I have someone to talk to.

Will Eisner you will be missed.
Dreamwave Comics: Say it isnt so!
